Big Bad Boo Studios
Creative Director: Juanita Thompson
One of the most impactful moments for a child is being able to see themselves represented on screen. As a Vietnamese-American, my favorite and most memorable films that defined my childhood were Avatar the Last Airbender, Mulan, and Paris by Night. I was able to laugh with the characters, understand the cultural references, and fully engrossed myself with the stories that were told.
In the summer of 2023, I had an amazing opportunity to intern with an animation studio that produces children media sensitive to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA). These collection of templates were designed to be promoted through the studio's social media platforms and online presence.
Each day at Big Bad Boo Studios was a new experience—from attending table reads, voice-overs for shows, and meeting with talented individuals throughout the entire pipeline. These valuable and unforgettable days reflects on my self-directed project Big Bad Boo: Everyday is a Holiday Calendar.
One of the studio's show, 16 Hudson, follows a group of neighboring kids from various cultural and social backgrounds. When we join them on their adventures, we can learn about and be introduced to different holidays such as Lunar New Year, Norooz and Diwali.
